According to the European Environment Agency, between 1990 and 2019, vehicle greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union have risen by 33.5%. This is in stark contrast to sectors such as the industrial sector, where emissions have dropped by more than 30% during the same time span.
Add to this the fact that road transportation contributes to over 20% of the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions and you will understand why keeping track of pollution is of paramount importance to preserve the future of our planet.
For this reason, a couple years ago we started a collaboration with Kunak SL, a Spanish company specializing in air quality stations, in order to combine our expertise and integrate our respective systems to develop a solution that could help us understand how traffic affects urban air quality, allowing public authorities and municipalities to find ways to improve city life.
Thanks to the synergies between Kunak’s air monitoring systems and our Road ANPR cameras, we were able to accurately monitor emissions and understand how they are influenced by traffic.
Kunak stations come in two versions: the Kunak Air Lite, which offers basic PM and gas monitoring, and the Kunak Air Pro, the more advanced option with complete PM and gas monitoring. The main distinguishing feature of these stations is their groundbreaking cartridge technology: this not only means that each station can be equipped with different cartridges (there are eleven types to choose from!) according to the needs of the community where the station is installed, but also that once they are exhausted they can be easily replaced and recalibrated without the need to remove the station and send it back to the factory.
