Detect the digital code on a glass bottle

20 Jul 2020

Glass containers are generally produced in very large volumes through a molding process; the prolonged use of the mold determines its wear, with the consequent variation of the required characteristics of the finished product.

One of the approaches to understand if the production process is efficient is the statistical quality control of the product. In this phase it becomes essential to be able to trace the mold that has physically made the bottle, so as to be able to act upstream on one of the variables that can generate defects: the wear of the mold.

One of the solutions adopted by bottle manufacturers to understand which mold produced which piece, is to write an identification number of the mold on each sample. This number is printed as a digital code, called "Dot Code".

Every quality control machine needs to be able to know the dot code and associate it with the inspection result: Caliber Dot Scan has been made for that; our system reads the dot code of each bottle with non contact technology and communicates it to any control machine.
