Laser marking and engraving

Fiber laser marking and engraving on metal (stainless steel, aluminium, brass, copper, gold) and plastic

What is laser marking and how does it work?

Fiber laser marking (also laser engraving or laser etching - similar but more invasive processes) is used to mark metal (stainless steel, aluminium, brass, copper, gold, etc), plastic, and wood. The result of the laser marking process is permanent, so it cannot be easily removed.

Laser marking is an easy and quick way to customise different objects by marking logos, personalised labels, qr code and so on. This process is used in different fields, such as jewelry and automotive. Because it replaces plastic labels and stickers, it finds application also in the food industry, where it is used to label fruit, vegetables, and cheese.

Difference between laser marking and laser engraving

Laser marking and laser engraving are similar but different processes. Laser marking removes pigments from the outermost layer of the material, leaving the surface intact. Laser engraving, on the contrary, vaporise the material's surface, leaving a cavity in the marked area.
